On August 12, 1915, a company of volunteers from Britain's royal estate advanced into withering gunfire during the Gallipoli campaign and was never seen again. Eyewitnesses spoke of a strange mist that embraced the men and carried them heavenward to safety.
Masterpiece Theatre presents a moving drama based on newly discovered evidence of their real fate on "All the King's Men," airing Sunday, Feb. 20 at 9/8 p.m. CT on KET.
David Jason stars as Captain Frank Beck, the king's manager at Sandringham and commanding officer of the home guard of servants, grooms and gardeners, who saw their first--and last--action at Gallipoli. Maggie Smith plays Queen Alexandra, mother to the reigning monarch, George V, and matriarch of the tight-knit Sandringham community.
Also starring are David Troughton as King George V, Patrick Malahide as battalion doctor Captain Claude Howlett and Ian McDiarmid as the Reverend Pierrepont Edwards, the royal envoy who stumbles on the truth about the lost men--and keeps it secret.
Masterpiece Theatre "All the King's Men," presented by WGBH/Boston is closed-captioned for the deaf and hard-of-hearing. Viewers can find out more about programming on KET by visiting the KET Web site at http://www.ket.org, a Kentucky.com affiliate.
