As the series celebrates 25 years on the air, Austin City Limits spotlights country legend Willie Nelson, who performs with the Family and special guest Leon Russell. The hour-long episode, airing Friday, March 3 at 10/9 p.m. CT on KET, presents a sensational all-acoustic performance, showcasing Nelson's unique guitar style and one-of-a-kind vocal ability.
When Austin City Limits producers approached Willie Nelson in 1974 with a modest proposal for a music television program, the world of popular music was strikingly different than it is today. A portly Elvis was still packing them in under the bright lights of Vegas, 8-track tapes were played in stereos and the term "unplugged" meant nothing outside of the plumbing profession.
A quarter century and numerous epochs in music and technology later, the singer, songwriter, guitarist, actor, champion of the family farm, iconoclast, trailblazer and American icon takes the stage at Austin City Limits for the 13th time.
