The course of the late Linda McCartney's life changed in a single afternoon. In 1966, while working at a society magazine in New York, she attended a party in honor of the Rolling Stones. A self-taught photographer, she showed up, camera in hand, and was granted exclusive access to the band. The pictures were a smashing success, and a new career was launched. Over the next few years, Linda captured the rock and pop evolutions of the 1960s with intimate portraits of those destined to become legends, including the Beatle who was to become her husband.
Linda McCartney: Behind the Lens, airing Wednesday, March 1 at 8/7 p.m. CT on KET and Friday, March 3 at 8/7 p.m. CT on KET2, is a poignant profile of the photographer's work and life, as well as a portrait of an era.
Blending archival footage, classic songs and personal interviews, the program examines Linda's work with subjects such as Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin. The documentary then follows the evolution of Linda's work and ideals as she used photography as a tool of social change.
Linda McCartney: Behind the Lens is produced by the BBC and presented by American Public Television. Viewers can find out more about programming on KET by visiting the KET Web site at http://www.ket.org, a Kentucky.com affiliate.
