The Turn of the Screw, Henry James' gripping ghost story, tells the chilling tale of a governess hired by a charming bachelor to look after his young niece and nephew. Set in Victorian England, the story unfolds in a grand mansion in the rural countryside, where sinister events place lives in jeopardy.
Masterpiece Theatre brings this famous story to television when "The Turn of the Screw" airs on KET Sunday, Feb. 27 at 9/8 p.m. CT.
Jodhi May plays the naïve young governess, who is charmed by her employer (Colin Firth) and is determined to make a success of her first appointment, despite his strange stipulation that she never contact him.
At first, the governess' impressions are all good--the house is beautiful, the children are charming and the job is a perfect delight. But she soon sees the ghosts of the former valet, Peter Quint (Jason Salkey), and a previous governess, Miss Jessel (Caroline Pegg). When the governess becomes convinced that the children can see them as well, that their souls are in danger and that she alone can save them, the stage is set for a battle of good and evil.
Masterpiece Theatre "The Turn of the Screw" is produced by United Productions in association with Martin Pope Productions and WGBH/ Boston. The program is closed-captioned for deaf and hard-of-hearing. Viewers can find out more about programming on KET by visiting the KET Web site at http://www.ket.org, a Kentucky.com affiliate.
