| Mozart's famed opera Don Giovanni comes to KET |
The Metropolitan Opera Presents returns to KET with "Don Giovanni," Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's immortal opera centered on a powerful seducer and philandering murderer--an irresistible character whose monstrosity can lead to one place only. Airing Wednesday, Dec. 27 at 8/7 p.m. CT on KET, "Don Giovanni" celebrates the magnificence of Mozart's score in a dynamic production designed by Franco Zeffirelli. Taped at the Metropolitan Opera House in October 2000, the opera is sung in Italian with English subtitles. Set in 17th-century Seville, "Don Giovanni" depicts Giovanni as a murderous evil-doer who treats women scandalously. Even in the face of death, Giovanni refuses to repent for his crimes. As his house is engulfed in flame, he is dragged to hell--the ultimate retribution, the opera suggests, for those whose lives are devoted to wrong-doing. The opera, conducted by James Levine, stars Renée Fleming as Donna Anna, Solveig Kringelborn as Donna Elvira, Hei-Kyung Hong as Zerlina, Paul Groves as Don Ottavio, Bryn Terfel as Don Giovanni, Feruccio Furlanetto as Leporello, John Relyea as Masetto and Sergei Koptchak as the Commendatore. The Metropolitan Opera Presents "Don Giovanni" is produced by the Metropolitan Opera in association with WNET/New York.
