Brushfire |
Eddie and Martha Adcock |
The next edition of Jubilee, KET's signature bluegrass and blues performance series, features Central Kentucky bluegrass veterans Brushfire and the Nashville duo Eddie and Martha Adcock. Airing Wednesday, June 30 at 8/7 p.m. CT on KET1, the program includes performances taped at the 2003 Kentucky Lake Bluegrass Festival, as well as interviews with the performers.
Brushfire was founded in 1977 by current band leader Greg Breeding, a 25-year music veteran and an accomplished banjo and guitar player. He is joined by husband-and-wife team Dave Cottrell on banjo and Laurie Cottrell on upright bass. The Cottrells have been performing for more than 20 years.
Then, Eddie and Martha Adcock--known as "the Sonny and Cher of bluegrass music"--have been performing and writing songs together for more than 30 years. The Adcocks were part of the 1970s maverick "newgrass" group Second Generation, and before that Eddie was part of the influential group Country Gentleman.
The Adcocks now perform a brand of bluegrass they have dubbed "twograss," blending elements of bluegrass, country, gospel, folk, blues, jazz, rock and rockabilly. The couple has appeared on Austin City Limits, Ernest Tubb's Midnite Jamboree and TNN's Nashville Now and Wildhorse Saloon, as well as several NPR programs. Their recent recordings include Spirited (1998) and Eddie & Martha Adcock (2003).
Jubilee is a KET production, produced by H. Russell Farmer. Nancy Carpenter is executive producer. The program is closed-captioned for the deaf and hard-of-hearing.
