Kentucky Life features efforts to conserve the Kentucky River palisades and samples the fare at General Butler State Resort Park on the program airing Saturday, Feb. 10 at 8/7 p.m. CT and Sunday, Feb. 11 at 4:30/3:30 p.m. CT on KET1 and Sunday, Feb. 11 at 7/6 p.m. CT on KET2. Dave Shuffett and his dog Charlie host the program, which also features a profile on WKU coaching legend Ed Diddle.
First, Kentucky Life takes a look at the conservation buyer program initiated by the Nature Conservancy. Through this program, people acquire pieces of land adjoining important preserves or adjoining waterways that the conservancy is trying to protect. This segment features the Brooks family, who purchased a conservation easement outside Sally Brown Nature Preserve in Garrard County.
Next, Dave travels to Carroll County for a look at Two Rivers Restaurant at General Butler State Park. For years, the restaurants at state parks were famous for their buffets--and their identical menus across the state. Two Rivers is one of the first to break the mold by creating an independent and creative menu using local produce.
Then, Kentucky Life looks back at Coach Ed Diddle, the former longtime men's basketball coach at Western Kentucky University, who was widely regarded as one of the best college coaches in the country. But "Uncle Ed," as he was affectionately known, might be better remembered today for his outgoing spirit, his warm sense of humor and his unique control of the English language.
