A process called "adaptive reuse," which allows some of Louisville's historic buildings to be repurposed, is featured on the next edition of Louisville Life , airing Thursday, Feb. 8 at 7:30/6:30 p.m. CT and Sunday, Feb. 11 at noon/11 a.m. CT on KET2. Hosted by Candyce Clifft, Louisville Life also stops by the Crane House, tours the historic marine hospital, features University of Louisville president Jim Ramsey and learns a little about Thomas Edison's bright ideas in the River City.

Old buildings often outlive their original purposes. Adaptive reuse is a process that adapts buildings for new uses while retaining their historic features. Louisville Life discovers what this process means for Louisville's historic neighborhoods.

Next, the Crane House, Louisville's largest Asian culture center, celebrates the Chinese New Year. The Crane House is a private nonprofit resource center that actively promotes cultural understanding among the peoples of the United States and Asia.

Louisville Life then tours one of the country's most endangered historic landmarks: the U.S. Marine Hospital. The hospital served sick and injured river boatmen beginning in the 1850s. Later, it was used as a Civil War hospital and to care for World War I veterans.

Next, Candyce speaks with Jim Ramsey, who is entering his fifth year as head of the University of Louisville. He offers his views from the president's office, including his thoughts on the new sports arena, among other topics.

Louisville Life also celebrates the 160th anniversary of Thomas Edison's birth by visiting the house he called home in historic Butchertown while he worked for Western Union as a telegraph operator.
