While Valentine's Day is typically about chocolate hearts and heart-shaped cards, this year a new special puts the emphasis on our actual hearts, looking at heart health and ways to ensure we'll be able to celebrate many future Valentine's Days. The Hidden Epidemic: Heart Disease in America, a special on the number one killer of Americans, airs Wednesday, Feb. 14 at 9/8 p.m. CT on KET1.How can a 44-year-old with no health complaints suddenly die from a massive heart attack? His case is not unusual. More than half of all people who die of heart disease succumb suddenly without warning--and the other half have the disease lurking in their body for many years before it strikes. There is no cure, but doctors are learning remarkable new things about the disease: where it starts, how it occurs and what that means for us.
Immediately following the program, CNN's Larry King hosts "Take One Step for a Healthy Heart," a half-hour discussion featuring some of the country's top medical experts and physicians who present important strategies and practical tactics for improving the health of your heart.
