Kentucky Life begins a celebration of the bicentennial of the birth of Abraham Lincoln with a program devoted to an interpretation of the wedding of the Kentucky president's parents. The program, hosted by Dave Shuffett, airs Saturday, Feb. 17 at 8/7 p.m. CT and Sunday, Feb. 18 at 4:30/3:30 p.m. CT on KET1 and Sunday, Feb. 18 at 7/6 p.m. CT on KET2.
The re-enactment, held in June 2006 at the Lincoln Homestead State Park in Springfield , marked the 200th anniversary of the marriage of Lincoln's parents. The event was the beginning of Kentucky's three-year Lincoln celebration, which will culminate in the bicentennial of Lincoln's 1809 birth.
This special half-hour program presents the wedding re-enactment, narrated by an actor portraying Abraham Lincoln, as well as interviews regarding the upcoming Lincoln bicentennial. To place the wedding in context, the program also includes re-enactors playing historical figures such as George Washington and the slave York, who accompanied Lewis and Clark on their exploration of the Louisiana Purchase, and actors in period costume performing the tasks of daily life in the early 1800s in Kentucky.
