For Release: Jan. 29, 2007
This month, Kentucky kids have an opportunity to show off their creativity. KET and the Kentucky Institute for Family Literacy (KIFL) are participating in the 13th Annual Reading Rainbow Young Writers and Illustrators Contest for students in kindergarten, first, second and third grades. The Kentucky winner from each grade level will be entered into the national Reading Rainbow contest for a chance to win a laptop computer.
Each participant must submit an original story with five original, clear and colorful illustrations. Invented spelling will be accepted, and children who cannot write may dictate their story to a helpful grownup. The length of the stories varies by grade level. Complete rules are available at http://pbskids.org/readingrainbow/contest/.
The deadline for submissions is Wednesday, Feb. 28 and Kentucky's winners will be announced on March 30. Those interested in participating may contact Carrie Grate at (859) 258-7451 or cgrate@ket.org for more information.
