A nationwide stop-smoking initiative organized by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the National Cancer Institute (NCI) has selected a Kentuckian as a semi-finalist in its "Quit Now Challenge." Bill Goodman discusses the contest with RaeAnne Davis, the Quitline coordinator from Kentucky, and Cindy Murdock, the semi-finalist, in the next edition of One to One, airing Friday, Feb. 23 at 10/9 p.m. CT on KET2 and Sunday, Feb. 25 at 2/1 p.m. CT on KET1.The challenge, part of the "Be A Quitter" campaign, enhances NCI and CDC's ongoing National Network of Tobacco Cessation Quitlines initiative. Participants, chosen among men and women between 18 and 29 years old, are encouraged to help others quit by posting daily diaries and sharing their personal stories on the official 1-800-QUIT-NOW Web site, 1800quitnow.org. Callers to the 800 number receive practical, effective help quitting smoking, information materials and referrals to other resources.
