The museum dedicated to the legendary Muhammad Ali and personal stories from his friend and longtime photographer highlight the next edition of Louisville Life. The program, which also features the Festival of Faiths and historian Tom Owen, airs Thursday, March 1 at 7:30/6:30 p.m. CT on KET2. Candyce Clifft hosts.
Serving as an international educational and cultural center inspired by the ideals of its founder, the Muhammad Ali Center offers a place to explore the greatness that lies within each individual. Howard L. Bingham, Ali's photographer and friend for 42 years, has been named the center's first Honorary Curator of Photography in honor of his life's work of documenting Ali as a boxer, humanitarian, friend and citizen of the world.
Next, viewers can celebrate the religious heritage of Louisville with the Festival of Faiths, an event recognized by the U.S. Senate as a model for interfaith activity. Organized by the Cathedral Heritage Foundation, which formed in 1985 to oversee the restoration of the Catholic Cathedral of the Assumption, the week-long festival centers on a particular theme and makes it its mission to "celebrate the diversity of our faiths, be grateful for our unity and strengthen the role of religion in society."
Louisville Life then introduces a historian and master storyteller who brings the history and stories of Louisville to life. Former Board of Aldermen member Tom Owen, a professor at the University of Louisville, has been a history instructor, archivist and community relations associate at U of L since 1968. He is well known as a local historian, a frequent contributor to radio and television features, a tour guide for local sights and a speaker on state and local history.
Louisville Life is a KET production, produced and directed by Gary Pahler. Jayne McClew is content producer; associate producer is Kelli Brodersen.
