New documentary recounts state's role in Civil War

For Release: Sept. 4, 2006

Jan. 12, 2007

The Civil War in Kentucky , a new documentary focusing on the Commonwealth's part in the war between the states, airs Saturday, March 10 at 10/9 a.m. CT on KET2 as part of TeleFund 2007 .

Hosted by Civil War historian Kent Masterson Brown, The Civil War in Kentucky focuses on the history of the war from 1861 until the end of the Confederate invasion of the state in the fall of 1862. It begins with the establishment of the Confederate defenses in Kentucky, and follows them through to their collapse in early 1862. The program also covers Gen. Edmund Kirby Smith's invasion of the state in August of that year, including his seizing of Lexington in September, and Gen. Braxton Bragg's invasion of Kentucky, following his army to Munfordville, Bardstown and Perryville. The program ends with the retreat of Smith's and Bragg's armies back to Tennessee in October, which left Kentucky under Union control for the remainder of the war.

Throughout the documentary, the viewer is taken onto the battlefields of Richmond, Munfordville and Perryville so that those engagements may be understood in the context of the battlefields as they appear today.

The Civil War in Kentucky is produced by Post Time Productions. Private support constitutes the largest source of funding for KET's programs and related educational outreach.
