| Mixed Media segment receives Communicator Awards |
|
A Mixed Media segment about graphic artist Derrick Riley has received an Award of Excellence for creativity as well as an Award of Distinction in broadcast television in the 13th annual Communicator Awards' 2006 Video Competition. The segment, titled "Robart," and produced by KET videographer Frank Simkonis has also been the recipient of an Accolade Award of Excellence, an independent competition that began in 2003 to increase awareness and promote excellence in visual media, as well as a Bronze Telly award and several other industry honors. "Robart" features Riley's woodcut prints, which have appeared in numerous national and international shows and many private and public collections--including Rutgers University, Boston College and the College of Notre Dame of Maryland. The prints comment on society through humor and pop culture references, and Riley believes his work results from growing up at flea markets and watching Seinfeld and The Simpsons . KET staff members who also contributed to this segment include editor Dan Taulbee and audio engineer Brent Abshear. More information about KET programming and education services, as well as how to support KET, can be found at www.ket.org.
