Hosted and narrated by Matt Damon, Journey to Planet Earth " State of the Ocean ' s Animals " looks at why nearly half the world ' s marine animals may face extinction over the next 25 years. Case studies focus on how global warming, sea-level rise, over-fishing and habitat destruction are beginnin g to empty the world ' s oceans. " State of the Ocean ' s Animals " airs Wednesday, March 28 at 8/7 p.m. CT on KET2 and Saturday, March 31 at 10/9 p.m. CT on KET1.The program travels around the world to examine the condition of marine life , allowing viewers to appreciate the diversity and beauty of our planet ' s marine life, and understand the dangers that threaten it . Topics include the loss of salmon and sea otters in the Pacific Northwest , the shark fin trade in China, threats to Emperor Penguins in the Antarctic , the deterioration of coral reefs in the Caribbean and much more .
" State of the Ocean ' s Animals " also features inspiring stories of hope and courage that celebrate of the beauty and d iversity of the natural world , including the Indonesian government's attempts to find new socially responsible, and economically viable, ways to manage their reefs and fisheries. Another encouraging tale comes from Melbourne Beach, Florida, the largest loggerhead sea turtle nesting site in the world. There, scientists and local communities are working together to save the species from extinction.
