Louisville Life delves into the past and present this week with features on genealogy, Brightside's Community-Wide Cleanup and the Apple Patch community for adults with handicaps. The program, which airs Thursday, April 12 at 7:30/6:30 p.m. CT and Sunday, April 15 at noon/11 a.m. CT on KET2, also features an interview with congre ssman and LEO founder John Yarm uth and a tour of the Cathedral of the Assumption. Candyce Clifft hosts.
First , Louisville Life presents information for anyone who has ever thought about tracing their roots , including tips and top stops for folks interested in shaking their family trees.
Next, Louisville Life visits the Brightside program, which promotes civic pride by partnering with citizens to keep the community clean, green and environmentally aware. Projects include Green Mile, the Fred Wiche Award and environmental education programs that invite citizens to help keep Louisville beautiful. The segment also features Brightside's Community-Wide Cleanup, which offers a way to strengthen bonds of friendship while clean ing up the neighborhood.
Then, the Apple Patch community is featured. It's been called a dream decades in the making -- a place where adults with mild to moderate mental retardation can make a life on their own. Louisville Life shows how that dream is becoming a reality.
Next, Candyce interviews John Yarmuth, Kentucky's new 3rd district congressman and founder and former owner of the alternative newspaper LEO, the Louisville Eccentric Observer. Yarmuth also has a long history with public television, incl uding some stints as show host.
Finally, Louisville Life takes viewers inside the home to the largest inland Roman Catholic diocese in the U.S., the Cathedral of the Assumption. The gorgeous building has been described as a "heavenly piece of architecture" in downtown Louisville.
