Lexington Herald Leader reporter Jack Brammer; president and CEO of the Healing Place, Jay Davidson; and head of the I nternational Impaired Physicians program , Dr. Gordon Hyde, are Al Smith's guests on the next Comment on Kentucky . The program airs Friday, April 6 at 8/7 p.m. CT on KET1 and 10:30/9:30 p.m. CT on KET2 and Sunday, April 8 at 12:30 p.m./11:30 a.m. CT on KET1.
Brammer discusses Kentucky Housing Corp . (KHC), a public corporation that makes safe, affordable housing available to low-income Kentuckians. KHC, along with a coalition of state and federal agencies, is currently sponsoring the construction of 10 centers across the state for homeless alcoholics and addicts modeled after the Healing Place in Louisville and the Hope Center in Lexington . This project, initiated by Gov. Ernie Fletcher and Don Ball, chairman of KHC, is known as Recovery Kentucky.
Davidson discusses the nature of homelessness and the Healing Place, a non-profit organization that provides assistance to people struggling with homelessness, alcoholism and/or addiction. Davidson stresses the importance of dedication and empathy when it comes to helping someone suffering from alcoholism and drug addiction.
Hyde, a retired professor of surgery at the University of Kentucky, is an expert on the medical side of addiction. He was an advocate for the creation of UK's Bell Alcohol and Addictions Chair .
