KET presents Earth Week programming

To celebrate Earth Week, April 16-20 , KET presents special programming about the environment, including a history of the U.S. Forest Service, an examination of pollution in Kentucky's waterways and a profile of Frederick Law Olmsted, who designed Louisville's city park system. Also, Curious George and Clifford, among other favorites, show kids how to get involved in taking care of the environment.

The Greatest Good uses rarely seen footage and photography, sweeping aerial shots and dozens of interviews to chronicle the rich history of the U.S. Forest Service. Narrated by CBS News veteran Charles Osgood, the two-part program begins Wednesday, April 18 at 10/9 p.m. CT on KET1 and Sunday, April 22 at 10/9 p.m. CT on KET2. The documentary, which traces the Forest Service's efforts to deliver the most benefits to the most people while still remaining conscientious stewards of the land, also profiles the Forest Service employees who developed ways of addressing major natural resource issues.

Common Ground and Cleaner Water , a KET production, outlines the problem of non-point source pollution and offers simple methods Kentuckians can follow to help protect sources of water in the Commonwealth. The program, which airs Friday, April 20 at 10/9 p.m. CT on KET1 and Sunday, April 22 at 4/3 p.m. CT on KET2, also takes a look at the critical level of pollution that closed Hidden River Cave in Horse Cave, Ky., as well as the efforts that helped clean up the natural landmark.

Best known for designing New York ' s Central Park, Frederick Law Olmsted painted a green swath across Louisville that has defined the city. KET presents a look at his extraordinary life and his influence on Kentucky ' s largest urban center in Olmsted in Louisville , airing Sun day, April 22 at 9 / 8 p.m. CT on KET2.

" Share the Earth Day," Friday, April 20 , features Earth Day-themed episodes from Arthur , Clifford the Big Red Dog , Curious George , Dragon Tales and more . K ids will find creative ideas that help them take care of the environment and interact with nature, including tips on recycling, cleaning up their neighborhoods, exploring and planting a garden .
