The Remarkable Red Hat Society traces a fantastic story of how a group of five friends, dressed up in red and purple, galvanized millions of women who were looking for something more in their lives. The program , airing Wednesday, April 25 at 10/9 p.m. CT on KET2 , follows the Red Hatters f rom the ir first tea party in Fullerton, Ca . in 1998 , to the opening of the first "H atquarters" just three years later.
The Remarkable Red Hat Society features diverse Red Hat chapters and explores how "Red Hatting" is redefining antiquated notions of what older women look like today. From finding new friends, to supporting those grieving over a loss, to improving their health and well-being, to mentoring younger women and taking on new challenges, Red Hatters are only beginning to rewrite the role of a modern older woman through camaraderie, friendship, sisterhood and bonding.
According to founder and Queen Mother, Sue Ellen Cooper, " The Red Hat Society began as a result of a few women deciding to greet middle age with verve, humor and élan. We believe silliness is the comedy relief of life, and since we are all in it together, we might as well join red-gloved hands and go for the gusto together. Underneath the frivolity, we share a bond of affection, forged by common life experiences and a genuine enthusiasm for wherever life takes us next."
T he Red Hat Society has formed thousands of chapters across the United States and around the world , including groups in Australia , Canada, Egypt, Japan and Mexico.
The Remarkable Red Hat Society is a production of Creative Presentations. Independent filmmaker Fred Cohen is producer. The program is distributed by American Public Television.
