Two Louisville " legends " in one night on KET
KET presents a look at one of Louisville's biggest events with Thunder over Louisville , airing Wednesday, May 2 at 9/8 p.m. CT on KET2, immediately followed by a profile of the city's most famous sports icon, Muhammad Ali .

For the 18th year, t he Thunder over Louisville fireworks display features the latest in pyrotechnics. The set-up for the display includes 60 tons of fireworks shells and 250 tons of launching tubes, some as high as 10 feet tall. The breathtaking 28-minute show , which remains the largest annual pyrotechnic display in North America, includes Thunder's signature one-mile "waterfall" effect off the bridge. Th is year's display is titled "The Magic of Thunder" -- a tribute to a ll things magical and mystical.

Then, Louisville ' s Own Ali , produced by Louisville native and former Lexington anchorman and reporter Steve Crump, examines the life and times of the world-famous boxer. The program presents Ali's story from a Louisville perspective .

Through interviews with well-known Louisvillians such as radio personality Bob Edwards and U of L and Colts football legend Lenny Lyles, Crump showcases the hometown connections of the " Louisville Lip. " Ali ' s famous egoism is also spotlighted as Crump points out that he offered blacks a self-confident hero in a time when many were bruised by racial turmoil. Also featured are interviews with former Gov. John Y. Brown, Louisville Mayor Jerry Abramson, former state Sen. Georgia Davis Powers and others.
