Discover the hotel which, until the Astrodome was built, sported the largest domed structure in America on the next edition of Louisville Life , airing Thursday, May 10 at 7:30/6:30 p.m. CT and Sunday, May 13 at noon/11 a.m. CT on KET2. Candyce Clifft hosts.
First, Louisville Life checks out the progress on the West Baden Springs Hotel, now being restored to its 1917 grandeur. In 1996, the Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana bought the deteriorating property, and recruited donors who funded and managed the $34 million renovation. It's now being returned to pristine condition and the vast domed atrium, lobby and dining room restored to gilded glory.
Next, the program goes behind the scenes in advance of the 54th WHAS Crusade for Children, the most successful local telethon in the United States.
Then, Louisville Life stops by Locust Grove, a long-time favorite of visitors to local historic homes, which is also full of American history. This National Historic Landmark is the only verified remaining structure west of the Appalachian Mountains known as a stopping point for Lewis and Clark.
Next, Candyce interviews Omar Ayash, director of Louisville's Office for International Affairs, which s upports and promotes a vibrant multicultural community through awareness, advocacy and referral.
Finally, the program spotlights a rehab facility where birds are the celebrities and the concerns aren't addictions, but injured wings, beaks and talons.
Louisville Life is a KET production, produced and directed by Gary Pahler. Jayne McClew is content producer; associate producer is Kelli Brodersen. More about KET programming and education services, as well as how to support KET, can be found at www.ket.org.
