K ET was recently honored with Accolade, Aurora and Videographer awards. These national and international competitions are all designed to recognize and promote excellence in the film and video production fields.Art to Heart , an eight-part KET production that explores the importance of the arts in the lives of young children, received a gold Aurora Award in the arts/culture category and an honorable mention from the Accolade Awards in the educational/instructional category. Contributors include Guy Mendes, Nancy Carpenter, Teresa Day, Mary Beth Hester, Otis Ballard and Frank Simkonis.
KET videographer Simkonis also received a platinum " best in show " Aurora Award for a Mixed Media segment about graphic artist Derrick Riley, titled "Robart . " KET staff members who also contributed to this segment include video editor Dan Taulbee and audio engineer Brent Abshear.
Simkonis also won Videographer Awards and Accolade Awards for his work on Art to Heart , "Robart" and the "Earth Trek" segment on News Quiz , KET ' s weekly current-events television series for upper elementary/middle school students.
