Northern Kentucky University president James Votruba talks higher education with Bill Goodman on the next edition of One to One , airing Friday, June 1 at 10/9 p.m. CT on KET2 and Sunday, June 3 at 2/1 p.m. CT on KET1.Votruba assumed the presidency of the 14,700-student Northern Kentucky University in August 1997. He came to NKU from Michigan State University, where he was vice provost for university outreach and professor of higher education from 1989-97. Prior to his tenure at MSU, he was dean of the college of education and human development at Binghamton University and previously held faculty and administrative positions at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Drake University.
Votruba holds degrees in political science and sociology; his Ph.D. is in higher education administration. He is a frequent lecturer, author and consultant in the areas of higher education leadership, strategic planning and public engagement.
In this interview, Goodman and Votruba discuss improving higher education in the state, rising tuition costs and his work as co-chair of Vision 2015, a Northern Kentucky regional planning process.
