The History Detectives begin a new season of sleuthing by investigating a projection screen with possible Cuban Missile Crisis connections, what could be an early "Amos 'n' Andy" record and a painting with potential ties to women's suffrage. The program airs Tuesday, June 26 at 8/7 p.m. CT on KET1 and Saturday, June 30 at 8/7 p.m. CT on KET2.

The story of a portable projection screen that may have been used to show President John F. Kennedy aerial spy photos during the Cuban Missile Crisis leads to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base . There, History Detectives learns how the world's first supersonic photo-recon aircraft was rigged with 3-D cameras to improve its vantage on Cuba's camouflaged missiles.

Also, during the investigation of an "Amos 'n' Andy" record, host Tukufu Zuberi uncovers a complex portrait of 1930s race relations and the emerging power of the mass media in American popular culture.

Then, host Gwen Wright searches for the mystery artist whose work helped culminate the 72-year battle for women's suffrage. She examines a painting with t he words "Official Program Woman Suffrage Procession Washington D.C. March 3, 1913." The contributor wants to learn if this image is the original for that program, and what role it played in securing women the right to vote.

Later in the season, a typewriter that may have belonged to the famous WWII journalist Ernie Pyle, America's most beloved battlefront correspondent, is examined. Also, the detectives look at a book emblazoned with the name and address of the legendary 19th-century anarchist Lucy Parsons, who championed rights for the poor and disenfranchised. And, the investigation of a pin the contributor says is made of metal drawn from the Liberty Bell uncovers dramatic accounts of the dark days after the Civil War, when America was torn apart, and the dramatic measures the North undertook to ensure reconciliation.

History Detectives is co-produced by Lion Television and Oregon Public Broadcasting.
