Music, history, fireworks bring Fourth of July to KET

Airing Wednesday, July 4 at 8/7 p.m. CT on KET1, A Capitol Fourth kicks off an evening of Independence Day celebrations with a musical extravaganza and dazzling display of fireworks over the Washington Monument.

Live from the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol, America's biggest birthda y celebration, hosted by actor\~Tony Danza, will feature musical artists, including Elliott Yamin ("American Idol"), Tony award-winner Bebe Neuwirth, gospel legend Yolanda Adams, actress and singer Hayden Panettiere ("Heroes")\~and others performing with the National Symphony Orchestra under the direction of conductor Erich Kunzel. The celebration , which encores later that evening at 9:30/8:30 p.m. CT on KET2, will conclude with a rousing rendition of Tchaikovsky's "1812 Overture," complete with live cannon fire provided by the United States Army Presidential Salute Battery .

Then, Pyromania takes viewers behind the barricades of gigantic fireworks display s . The program follows the fireworks from a small factory in China where they are produced to high above the Washington Monument where an army of technicians delight s onlookers with a thrilling pyrotechnic display. Pyromania airs at 9/8 p.m. CT on KET2.

Patrick Henry ' s impassioned plea at the second Virginia Convention of 1775, " Give me liberty or give me death, " defined the American Revolution . Liberty or Death , airing at

8/7 p.m. CT on KET2, captures this seminal moment in American history by balancing experts ' commentary on the events preceding the second Virginia Convention with dramatic re-enactments of the historic moments that followed.

Finally, t he Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra perform patriotic classics including " America the Beautiful " and " This Land I s Your Land " on America the Beautiful , airing at 9:30/8:30 p.m. CT on KET1.
