Two Western Kentucky bands -- The McKendrees and Bawn in the Mash -- perform on Music from the Front Porch , airing Wednesday, Aug. 8 at 10/9 p.m. CT on KET1. The program is a televised special of Murray State University's long-running weekly bluegrass radio show.
The McKendrees, a family bluegrass band from Marshall County , specialize in traditional bluegrass and bluegrass gospel. The group got its start performing at a local Baptist c hurch . The band's newest CD is titled He Leadeth Me . Members of The McKendrees a re Jason McKendree on banjo and guitar, vocalist Jessalyn McKendree Hardy, Justin McKendree on mandolin, Ricky McKendree on guitar and Ron Barnett on bass.
Known for high energy performances, Paducah's Bawn in the Mash adds modern twists to traditional stringband music. The band's first release, Welcome to the Atomic City , was produced by 2003 n ational o ld t ime b anjo c hampion and five - time Tennessee o ld t ime b anjo c hampion, Colonel Dan Knowles . Members of Bawn in the Mash are Josh Coffey, Tommy Oliverio, Eddie Coffey, Alex Faught and Nathan Lynn.
