KET Presents pbs
Classical Destinations visits inspiring European locales
Classical Destinations , a new concept in travel documentary and storytelling, explores how the physical beauty of Europe's most spectacular cities and landscapes directly inspired some of its greatest classical composers to write their masterworks. It airs Saturdays beginning Sept. 8 at 10:30/9:30 p.m. CT on KET 1 and Wednesdays beginning Sept. 19 at 5:30/4:30 p.m. CT on KET2.

Each week, viewers learn about the lives of composers such as Mozart, Bach, Beethoven, Grieg and Tchaikovsky the cities they lived in and how their work reflects the very same surroundings we see today. For example, the program follows how the brilliant light of Venice infused the clarity and vivacity of Vivaldi's Four Seasons and how the snow - steeped forests of Finland inspired Sibelius to create his serene and majestic chords.

Hosted and narrated by renowned actor, writer and music specialist Simon Callow, the series features a soundtrack of some of classical music's greatest works performed by distinguished artists and orchestras.

Classical Destinations is produced by Peter Beveridge for Classical Destinations, BBC Worldwide and WLIW/New York. More information about KET programming and education services, as well as how to support KET, can be found at www.ket.org.
