Pressroom Search:
Bob Edwards, Frazier Museum featured by Louisville Life

For Release: Sept. 4, 2006

Aug. 27 , 2007

Louisville Life plays host to native Louisvillian and radio host Bob Edwards in the next edition, airing Thursday, Sept. 13 at 7:30/6:30 p.m. CT on KET2. Candyce Clifft hosts the program, which encores Friday, Sept. 14 at 4/3 p.m. CT and Sunday, Sept. 16 at noon/11 a.m. CT on KET2 .

Born May 16, 1947, in Louisville, and a graduate of U of L, Edwards began his career in radio at a New Albany, Ind., station, followed by a stint in Korea with the Armed Forces Radio and Television Service. But he's best known as the longtime host of NPR's Morning Edition , where he brought the news to listeners for more than 20 years. In this segment, Edwards returns to the River City to talk about life on satellite radio and fond memories of growing up in Louisville.

Next, Louisville Life visits the state-of-the-art museum devoted to heroes, generals and famous leaders at the Frazier International History Museum. Here, visitors can learn about the military victories and defeats that changed history, as well as relive the historical events that challenged our ancestors.

Then, the details of the lives of two "riders" on the Underground Railroad are uncovered when Louisville Life features the story of Lucie and Thornton Blackburn, who escaped in 1831 from slavery in Louisville to Cincinnati and later, Detroit. When slave-catchers tried to force their return, Detroit's free African-American community rioted in their support, and the two fled to Canada. \~

Next, Candyce interviews John Asher of Churchill Downs, the longtime go-to guy for answers about horse racing and the Derby. A former journalist and Eclipse Award-winner, Asher oversees communications at the home of the world famous Kentucky Derby.

Finally, they may just be the forgotten heroes of horse racing. Louisville Life looks at the history of black jockeys in Kentucky, including the winning rider of the first Kentucky Derby.

Louisville Life is a KET production, produced and directed by Gary Pahler. Jayne McClew is content producer; associate producer is Kelli Brodersen.
