Kentucky Life explores the Commonwealth's World War II history on the next edition, airing Saturday, Sept. 22 at 8/7 p . m . CT and Sunday, Sept. 23 at 4:30/3:30 p . m . CT on KET1 and Sunday, Sept. 30 at 7/6 p.m. CT on KET2. The program is hosted by Dave Shuffett.
First, Dave learns the story of the Harrodsburg Tankers -- 66 men from Harrodsburg who joined the 192nd Tank Battalion and were sent to Bataan .
Next, Dave visits Camp Breckinridge in Morganfield. A former A rmy base, the camp housed German prisoners during World War II. The se POWs painted murals on the walls, which have been restored and turned into the centerpiece of an art and military history museum. The prisoner who painted most of them, David Mayers, died at the camp.
Finally, Kentucky Life profiles the real Rosie the Riveter, who was from Kentucky. Rose Will Leigh was born in 1920 in Pulaski County. Widowed with two young children after her husband was killed in a car accident, she joined the thousands of Kentuckians who left their rural homes during World War II and headed north in search of good-paying defense jobs.
