Emmy award - winning Louisville Life enters second season

A new season of KET's Louisville Life kicks off with a look at the chairman of the Brown-Forman company, two programs designed to improve the lives of Louisville's young men and women and the upcoming St. James Court Art Show. The program, hosted by Candyce Clifft, airs Thursdays, beginning Oct. 4 at 7:30/6:30 p.m. CT, Fridays, beginning Oct. 5 at 4/3 p.m. CT and Sundays, beginning Oct. 7 at noon/11 a.m. CT on KET2.

First, Louisville Life profiles Owsley Brown II, the presiding chairman of the board at Brown-Forman, who recently announced his retirement after nearly 40 years with the company. A fourth - generation family member in management, Brown is active in many Louisville organizations, including the Greater Louisville Fund for the Arts, the Actors Theatre of Louisville, the Speed Art Museum and the Kentucky Center for the Arts .

Next, the program visits YouthBuild Louisville, a program that helps unemployed and undereducated young people, ages 16 to 24, build affordable housing for homeless a nd low-income families in their co mmunities. The youths split their time between the construction site and the classroom, where they earn their GEDs or high school diplomas and prepare for jobs or college.

Then, Louisville Life looks at the Governor's School for the Arts . For three weeks each summer, many of Kentucky's talented, creative high school students gather for in-depth instruction in one of eight artistic disciplines: architecture, creative writing, dance, drama, instrumental music, musical theat er , visual art or vocal music. More than 1,200 students audition for the program each year; approximately 230 students are admitted.

Finally, Louisville Life gets ready for the annual St. James Court Art Show, which hosts more than 650 artists from all over the Americas . Rick Tabb of the Old Louisville Chamber discusses the grandeur of the historic neighborhood that surrounds the art fair.
