Louisville Life features Louisville veterans, photos and archives from World War II

Louisville Life examines Louisville's connections to World War II in a special edition, premiering Thursday, Oct. 25 at 7:30/6:30 p.m. CT on KET2. The program, hosted by Candyce Clifft, encores Friday, Oct. 26 at 4/3 p.m. CT and Sunday, Oct. 28 at noon/11 a.m. CT on KET2.

First, viewers meet several Louisville - area World War II veterans , including former Indiana Gov . Edgar Whitcomb. Whitcomb lived years under a fake identity, which was created to avoid execution as a prisoner of war.

Next, Louisville Life learns about the University of Louisville's role in saving World War II archives. U of L's Ekstrom Library houses the Department of Special Collections, which includes vintage war posters, maps and a range of materials documenting the cultural life of Louisville during the time. U of L history professor Bruce Tyler talks about his book, Louisville In World War II.

Then, the program visits Patton Museum in Fort Knox, where viewers meet  Robert Cameron, an Armor Branch historian, and O.B. Edens, a Patton Museum restoration specialist. Edens and his partner, Steve Wise, have been restoring tanks there for over 20 years. Cameron gives an overview of the museum, General Patton and WW II.

Louisville Life also visits the Kentucky Medal of Honor Memorial, which honors 56 Kentucky recipients of the medal.

Finally, Susan Bennett, a librarian for Clark County, Ind., discusses how the libraries are preserving and posting an electronic collection of World War II letters from southern Indiana soldiers.
