For Release: 2007-10-22 00:00:00

The next Kentucky Life follows the tragic story of Western Kentucky cave explorer Floyd Collins, and meets photographer John Stephen Hockensmith and his nomadic equine subjects. The program, hosted by Dave Shuffett, airs Saturday, Nov. 10 at 8/7 p.m. CT and Sunday, Nov. 11 at 4:30/3:30 p.m. CT on KET1 and Sunday, Nov. 11 at 7/6 p.m. CT on KET2.

In 1925, Collins went searching for a passage that would link a cave on his property to nearby Mammoth Cave, bringing him fame and fortune. His tragic search brought him much fame but very little fortune -- his entrapment and subsequent death became one of the most sensationalized events in the history of the Commonwealth. Dave retrace Collins' path with Roger Brucker, co-author of Trapped! The Story of Floyd Collins .

Then, photographer Hockensmith recounts his life-changing journey with Gypsies and their horses, which resulted in his book Gypsy Horses and the Travelers Way. Hockensmith, a world -renowned equine photographer from Georgetown, experienced first-hand the horse-based culture of the nomadic Gypsies of Great Britain. Through his introduction to the head of a prominent Gypsy family, he gained access and acceptance, traveling with the clans to the Appleby Fair, one of the last remaining traditional Gypsy horse-trading fairs. This experience has led to a book of photos and poems, an exhibit at t he Kentucky Horse Park and a new appreciation of life on the road.
