The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), a nonprofit corporation that supports the nation’s public broadcasting stations, announced that KET will be one of the first recipients of the Local Service Initiative (LSI) grants. The announcement was made on Oct. 4 in Washington, D.C.
The LSI grants are designed to provide seed money for the development of new public service initiatives that strengthen the stations’ role in their communities. Public television stations in Maryland, Alabama and Arkansas were also awarded LSI grants.
Upon receipt of the grant, KET will create digital education content for use in middle-school classrooms. KET will also launch an online library of searchable, “bite-sized” audio and video content, as part of the STEM Collaborative, which focuses on science, technology, engineering and math. The STEM Collaborative will create an online distribution tool that allows these digital educational resources to be shared with schools, teachers and families.
“KET, in partnership with sister states, will create new exciting digital content for middle school classrooms across America,” said Malcolm Wall, KET executive director. “Science and Math are critical to successful students and this project takes the next step in the digital classroom.”
