Congressman Ed Whitfield (R), who serves Kentucky’s 1st District, home to Fort Campbell, discusses his career and issues facing Congress and Kentucky on the next edition of One to One. Whitfield, a Hopkinsville native, was elected to Congress in 1994 as the first Republican to represent Kentucky’s 1st District since the Civil War. He serves on the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, and is the ranking member on the Oversight and Investigation Subcommittee. The subcommittee deals with a wide range of issues, including general commerce, security, consumer protection, energy policy, health, travel and professional sports. Whitfield also serves on the Subcommittee on Energy and Air Quality and the Subcommittee on Commerce, Trade, and Consumer Protection.
During his seven terms in Congress, Whitfield has focused on some specific issues, including enhanced benefits for all active duty service personnel, retirees and veterans; Medicare and Medicaid; and energy policies.
