Renee Shaw speaks with Rev. Byron Cooper, pastor of Kingdom Purpose Ministries, a new Lexington church, on the next Connections, airing Saturday, Dec. 8 at 3/2 p.m. CT on KET1 and Sunday, Dec. 16 at 11:30/10:30 a.m. CT on KET2.Cooper is also the director of the church’s rehabilitation mission for non-violent offenders, Source of Restoration. Most of the participants in the program have a history of substance abuse. Cooper discusses the curriculum, which includes discipline, employment skills training and religious lessons. Currently, a dozen men are enrolled in Source of Restoration.
Cooper also discusses his own background and how it influenced his call to begin the program. He once served 52 days in an Oklahoma jail. Cooper is now one of 1,000 people nominated for a CNN hero award.
