Ohio County native Alma Randolph, a community relations specialist, founder of a charitable foundation for children, and gospel singer, is Renee’s next guest on Connections. The program airs Saturday, Dec. 15 at 3/2 p.m. CT on KET1 and Sunday, Dec. 23 at 11:30/10:30 a.m. CT on KET2.
Elected to the Beaver Dam City Commission at the age of 24, Randolph was the first female and the first African American to be elected to a public office in Ohio County. She was recently appointed to the Kentucky Commission on Human Rights by Gov. Ernie Fletcher.
Randolph’s family’s struggle through poverty during her childhood prompted her to start her own charitable organization. The Alma Randolph Charitable Foundation (ARCF) was established in 1993 to provide new back-to-school clothing for disadvantaged children. Since then, the organization has provided new clothing for more than 9,300 children.
Also well-known as a gospel singer, Randolph has performed at conventions, civic events, political events and churches around the United States, the Bahamas and the Virgin Islands.
She was the recipient of the Business and Professional Women’s Organization 2006 “Lift up the Leaders” award, the Kentucky Education Association’s Diversity Committee’s 2003 Award for Civil and Human Rights in Education, and the NAACP’s 2001 Dr. Herman E. Floyd Award for Community Service, among many others.
