Program profiles Louisville’s Brandeis, ‘people’s attorney’

For Release: 2007-12-21 12:41:00

Discover the story of a Louisville native who made a lasting impact on America’s legal system — and became a Supreme Court justice — in Louis Brandeis: The People’s Attorney, airing Tuesday, Jan. 8 at 9/8 p.m. CT on KET1 and Monday, Jan. 14 at 10/9 p.m. CT on KET2.

The documentary illuminates the life of Brandeis, who was central to the development of modern American law, progressive politics and social reform. As both a public-interest attorney and judge, Brandeis championed social justice and the rights to free speech, privacy, fair working conditions and education.

Beloved by the people and distrusted by industrialists, Brandeis’ frequent successes in Massachusetts led him to fights against the nation’s most powerful lawyers, labor leaders and politicians.

Among other milestones, the documentary chronicles Brandeis’ years as a private attorney Boston at the turn of the 20th century and his contested appointment to the Supreme Court in 1916.

Louis Brandeis: The People’s Attorney is produced by Stuart Television Productions, Inc. More information about KET programming and education services, as well as how to support KET, can be found at www.ket.org.
