If nothing else, Jane Austen wrote from personal experience. Courtship she knew well; only the last act eluded her. The beloved author’s lost loves are explored in “Miss Austen Regrets,” a dramatization of her life, in the next installment of Masterpiece’s series “The Complete Jane Austen.” It airs Sunday, Feb. 3 at 9/8 p.m. CT on KET1 and Thursday, Feb. 7 at 9/8 p.m. CT on KET2.Starring Olivia Williams (The Sixth Sense), Greta Scacchi (The Player) and Hugh Bonneville (Notting Hill), “Miss Austen Regrets” traces the author’s life through her romances: Harris Bigg, whose proposal she accepted and then rejected; Edward Brydges, whom she also refused; the tongue-tied vicar she teased mercilessly; and the young surgeon who arrived on the scene too late to steal her heart.
Upcoming features in “The Complete Jane Austen” include “Pride and Prejudice,” the television adaptation starring Colin Firth that made him a leading man, “Emma” starring Kate Beckinsale and “Sense and Sensibility,” the story of two sisters who, though poor, attract a trio of very promising gentlemen.
