Renee speaks with Freddie Brown, director of the YMCA’s Activate America program on the next Connections with Renee Shaw, airing Saturday, Feb. 9 at 3/2 p.m. CT on KET1 and Sunday, Feb. 17 at 11:30/10:30 p.m. CT on KET2.
The Activate America program is designed to improve the nation’s health by supporting kids, adults, families and communities in their pursuit of well-being in spirit, mind and body. Some of the projects included in the Activate America program are America on the Move Week, which is designed to increase the number of daily steps people take, and annual YMCA Healthy Kids Days that encourage children and families to adopt behaviors that support a healthy lifestyle.
The Pioneering Healthier Communities project, another key component of the Activate America program, promotes healthy snacks and physical activity in afterschool programs, improved walking and biking trails, and community-gardens and farmers markets in communities across the nation.
Brown, who formerly ran Central Kentucky YMCA’s Black Achievers program, discusses the Activate America’s current accomplishments and his vision for the future of the program.
Connections with Renee Shaw is a KET production, produced by Renee Shaw and Carolyn Gwinn. More information about Connections, including streaming video, is available at www.ket.org/connections.
