The Jane Austen Society, the Cressman Center Visual Arts Gallery, the Carnegie Center for Art and History and artist Nana Yaa Asantewaa are featured on the next edition of Louisville Life. The program, hosted by Candyce Clifft, airs Thursday, Feb. 14 at 7:30/6:30 p.m. CT; Friday, Feb. 15 at 4/3 p.m. CT; and Sunday, Feb. 17 at noon/11 a.m. CT on KET2.

First, the program visits Louisville’s regional chapter of the Jane Austen Society of North America. The international society, dedicated to appreciation of British novelist Jane Austen and her writing, was founded in 1979. Now, there are approximately 3,500 members, or “Janeites,” of all ages in the U.S. and Canada.

Then, Louisville Life heads to the Cressman Center for Visual Arts. The center is the home to the glass program of the U of L department of fine arts. Part of the Hite Art Institute, the Commonwealth’s largest studio art program, the center features glass studios, sculpture studios, shops and galleries.

Next, viewers get a look at a new permanent exhibit at the Carnegie Center for Art and History in New Albany, Ind. The exhibit, titled Ordinary People, Extraordinary Courage: Men and Women of the Underground Railroad in the Indiana and Kentucky Borderland, examines the antislavery community in Floyd County, Ind., and describes life in the Falls region of the Ohio River Valley.

Then, Candyce sits down with Nana Yaa Asantewaa, founder of the Arts Council of Louisville. Asantewaa explains how the council supports Louisville’s arts community.

Finally, Louisville Life looks at Lincoln Ridge native Whitney Young, a civil rights leader who headed the National Urban League.

Louisville Life is a KET production, produced and directed by Gary Pahler. Jayne McClew is content producer; associate producer is Kelli Brodersen. More information about Louisville Life, including streaming video, is available at www.ket.org/loulife.
