Studies show that many Americans are still unaware of the coming digital television transition and how it will affect them. To help educate viewers about this landmark event in television history, The ABCs of HDTV explains the basics of digital television, how to access it, and what viewers may need to do prior to the nationwide shutoff of analog television broadcasting in February 2009. Broadcast veteran Nick Clooney hosts the program.The ABCs of HDTV addresses the different ways TV viewers can make the transition from analog to digital television (DTV), the federal DTV coupon program for converter boxes, and what equipment viewers need to receive and experience DTV to its fullest. The program also explains what’s meant by high-definition (HD) and how this differs from standard DTV.
Spokespersons from major electronics chains offer information on the difference between plasma and LCD, screen resolutions and other commonly asked questions. Plus, PBS President Paula Kerger talks about the new possibilities presented by the digital transition.
The ABCs of HDTV is a production of Kentucky Educational Television (KET). The program is produced by Tom Bickel. KET is Kentucky’s statewide public television network, providing the Commonwealth with high-quality locally produced programming and educational services. Since 1968, KET has delivered acclaimed PBS series and specials as well as outstanding children’s programming to its citizens, and now serves the state via digital and high-definition broadcast technology.
