On the next edition of One to One, Bill Goodman speaks with Ken Troske, professor of economics and director of the Center for Business and Economic Research at UK’s Gatton College of Business and Economics. The program airs Sunday, March 23 at 2/1 p.m. CT on KET1 and Tuesday, March 25 at 7:30/6:30 p.m. CT on KET2.
Troske discusses Kentucky’s economy, including why Kentucky has been one of the poorest states in the country for the past several decades. He notes that the Commonwealth has been left behind while bordering states have experienced economic surges. The way to remedy this inequity, Troske suggests, is consistent and long-term investment in education and workforce development. North Carolina, for example, achieved great economic growth after focusing on higher education for more than 40 years.
Troske also talks about state government’s role in economics, how competition can generate new ideas and innovation, keys to economic growth and the allocation of state funds for education.
One to One is a KET production, produced by Bill Goodman and Cindy Asher. Following the broadcast, One to One is available for on-demand videostream viewing at www.ket.org/publicaffairs/onetoone.htm and podcasting at www.ket.org/rss.
