KET celebrates Earth Day 2008, April 22, with a slate of new programs about global warming, environmental change and green technology, airing throughout April. Highlights include a new two-part edition of Jean-Michel Cousteau: Ocean Adventures; National Geographic’s Strange Days on Planet Earth, hosted by Edward Norton; green-themed editions of Nova, Frontline and Independent Lens; Earth Day celebrations on PBS Kids programs; and more. Jean-Michel Cousteau explores the Amazon River and the rapidly disappearing rainforest that surrounds it in Jean-Michel Cousteau: Ocean Adventures “Return to the Amazon,” beginning Wednesday, April 2 at 8/7 p.m. CT on KET2 and Tuesday, April 8 at 9/8 p.m. CT on KET1. Independent Lens meets recent college grads who plant a single acre of corn and follow it on its journey to America’s tables in “King Corn,” airing Tuesday, April 15 at 10/9 p.m. CT on KET2. Then, “The Creek Runs Red” visits the mining town of Picher, Okla. to explore the complex connections between people and place, airing Tuesday, April 22 at 10/9 p.m. CT on KET2. Tom and Ray Magliozzi, of NPR’s Car Talk, investigate green technology in Nova “Car of the Future,” airing Tuesday, April 22 at 8/7 p.m. CT on KET1 and Friday, April 25 at 8/7 p.m. CT on KET2. Frontline examines how bipartisan political and economic forces prevented the United States government from confronting global warming in “Hot Politics,” airing Tuesday, April 22 at 9/8 p.m. CT on KET1. Actor Edward Norton hosts National Geographic’s Strange Days on Planet Earth, which examines how over-fishing is affecting life far beyond the shoreline, and other environmental mysteries. The program airs Wednesday, April 23 at 9/8 p.m. CT on KET2. Also on Earth Day, PBS Kids host Miss Lori and her sidekick, Hooper, teach children how to recycle their trash at home and Curious George, Clifford the Big Red Dog and It’s a Big Big World all feature Earth Day-themed episodes.
