The next edition of Kentucky Life visits the Jesse Stuart Foundation, a teddy-bear entrepreneur and an intense robot competition. The program airs Saturday, April 5 at 8/7 p.m. CT on KET1; Sunday, April 6 at 4:30/3:30 p.m. CT on KET1; and Sunday, April 6 at 7/6 p.m. CT on KET2. Dave Shuffett hosts from the Highlands Museum and Discovery Center in Ashland.
First, the program spotlights the Jesse Stuart Foundation, a small non-profit book publisher that continues the legacy of acclaimed author, educator and conservationist Jesse Stuart. Headquartered in Ashland, the foundation publishes books written by beginning authors as well as well-recognized writers such as Stuart, Billy C. Clark, Allan W. Eckert, Harry Caudill and Thomas D. Clark.
Next, Kentucky Life meets Tollesboro resident Judy Geagley, who has created a teddy-bear empire from discarded fabric and garments. She and her husband design, stitch and stuff designer teddy bears, the most famous of which, “Tattered Old Bear,” is sold in high-end department stores in New York, Chicago and Beverly Hills.
Then, it’s off to Bowling Green for a remarkable competition that pits robots and imagination against various challenges and tasks. Western Kentucky University hosted the Kentucky First Lego League Competition that gave teams the chance to create a robot, present a report and, most importantly, work together to solve some very difficult problems.
