Louisville Life features ‘aviating’ actors, deadly weather

For Release: 2008-03-17 11:50:00

The next edition of Louisville Life discovers behind-the-scenes secrets of flying on stage, revisits 1974’s tornadoes and much more. The program, hosted by Candyce Clifft, airs Thursday, April 3 at 7:30/6:30 p.m. CT; Friday, April 4 at 4/3 p.m. CT; and Sunday, April 6 at noon/11 a.m. CT on KET2.

First, Louisville Life visits ZFX, a company that combines aerial choreography and state-of-the-art flying equipment to create amazing special effects for the stage. Founded in 1994, the ZFX staff includes flying directors, choreographers and performers. They fly over 200 different productions annually and have provided monkeys for Wicked the Musical, witches for The Wizard of Oz and even magical fairy dust for Peter Pan.

April 3, 1974 brought a super outbreak of tornadoes, the likes of which had never been seen in the area before. Among the more than 100 tornadoes confirmed that day were funnels that touched down in Louisville, Brandenburg and Hanover, Ind. On the 34th anniversary of the storm, Louisville Life looks back at the damage in Hanover, which included several fatalities, the closing of all area public schools, and damage to 31 of the 32 buildings on the campus of Hanover College.

Then, Candyce interviews Linda Harris, CEO of the Belle of Louisville. Built 92 years ago, the Belle is the oldest authentic paddlewheel steamboat still in operation in the United States. Harris manages the daily activities of the Belle and the riverboat Spirit of Jefferson.

Finally, Louisville Life learns about innovative artist Enid Yandell. A Louisville native, Yandell was a pioneer for women sculptors during the 1890s and early 1900s.

Louisville Life is a KET production, produced and directed by Gary Pahler. Jayne McClew is content producer; associate producer is Kelli Brodersen. More information about Louisville Life, including streaming video, is available at www.ket.org/loulife.
