On the next edition of Kentucky Life, viewers visit an impressive botanical garden, meet an artist whose inspiration comes from an unexpected source and learn about a program that helps Kentuckians with disabilities find employment. The program airs Saturday, April 12 at 8/7 p.m. CT on KET1; Sunday, April 13 at 4:30/3:30 p.m. CT on KET1; and Sunday, April 13 at 7/6 p.m. CT on KET2. Dave Shuffett hosts from Marshall County’s Kenlake State Resort Park.
First, Kentucky Life explores Yew Dell Gardens, a 35-acre farm purchased in 1940 by the late Theodore Klein, an internationally-known nurseryman and plant expert. The property, located in Oldham County, has been restored by community volunteers, and features impressive gardens and structures, including a mini-castle.
Next, viewers meet Tom Pfannerstill, a Kentucky artist who paints objects that look like common trash. Pfannerstill claims that people don’t observe anymore, and his meticulously recreated paintings of candy and cigarette wrappers, among other refuse, create a subtle reminder of the transitory nature of all things.
Then, Kentucky Life visits Frankfort Habilitation, a program designed to provide work experience for people with disabilities, and help them find appropriate, enjoyable employment.
Finally, the program looks at some of the Commonwealth’s beautiful scenic locations, including Fayette County’s Raven Run, Clark County’s Lower Howard’s Creek and Letcher County’s Bad Branch Falls.
