Louisville Life meets the brawny and beautiful Derby City Roller Girls

For Release: 2008-03-24 11:36:00

The next edition of Louisville Life features the Derby City Roller Girls; Louisville Originals, an organization that promotes local eateries; and the princesses of the Kentucky Derby Festival. The program, hosted by Candyce Clifft, airs Thursday, April 10 at 7:30/6:30 p.m. CT; Friday, April 11 at 4/3 p.m. CT; and Sunday, April 13 at noon/11 a.m. CT on KET2.

First, Louisville Life visits the Derby City Roller Girls, now in its second season of the tough and exciting sport of women’s flat track roller skating. Despite funny monikers like Asphalt Annie, Dixie Dieway and Celia Graves, the Louisville team is all business on the track.

Then, the program spotlights Louisville Originals, an organization designed to support and market independent restaurants in Louisville. It promotes the notion that eating out locally means spending money locally, which impacts the quality of life in the community.

Next, Louisville Life celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Fillies Ball as the Fillies Club brings together five decades of Kentucky Derby Festival royal courts. The courts’ Princesses act as ambassadors of the festival and represent the community at a variety of functions, attending nearly every festival event.

Then, Candyce interviews Michael E. Berry, president and CEO of the Kentucky Derby Festival, about the scores of activities Louisvillians and visitors can look forward to this year.

Finally, Louisville Life looks at Schimpff’s Confectionery in Jeffersonville, Ind., one of the oldest, continuously operated, family-owned candy businesses in the United States.

Louisville Life is a KET production, produced and directed by Gary Pahler. Jayne McClew is content producer; associate producer is Kelli Brodersen. More information about Louisville Life, including streaming video, is available at www.ket.org/loulife.
