The next edition of Kentucky Life features an award-winning, family-run business in Cadiz, a family farm in Franklin County that is now a tourist attraction and a retirement haven for aging horses. The program, hosted by Dave Shuffett, airs Saturday, April 26 at 8/7 p.m. CT on KET1; Sunday, April 27 at 4:30/3:30 p.m. CT on KET1; and Sunday, April 27 at 7/6 p.m. CT on KET2.First, Kentucky Life visits Broadbent Hams in Cadiz, a family business stretching back more than four decades. Broadbent Hams boasts more Kentucky State Fair Grand Champion Hams than any other country ham producer, and their pepper bacon has won international awards, beating out pâtés, ducks and lobsters.
Next, the program spotlights Happy Jack Pumpkin Farm, a Franklin County farm that has followed the agricultural tourism trend. Formerly a tobacco farm, Happy Jack, owned by farmer Richard Jones, now offers hay rides, pumpkin picking, apple cider, a corn maze and much more.
Finally, Kentucky Life heads to Our Mims Retirement Haven in Paris. Founder Jeanne Mirabito named the organization after the first retired racehorse to live with her, Our Mims. Some of the organization’s goals are to pamper retired broodmares and enhance the efforts of other non-profit rescue and adoption groups.
Kentucky Life is a KET production, produced by Joy Flynn. Segment producers are Shuffett and Brandon Wickey. Some Kentucky Life programs are available for on-demand videostream viewing at www.ket.org/kentuckylife.
