Derby festivities begin with Thunder fireworks

For Release: 2008-04-14 11:13:00

The largest annual pyrotechnics display in North America, Thunder Over Louisville, kicks off the Derby Festival, Louisville’s celebration prior to the Kentucky Derby. Highlights from this year’s event are featured in Thunder Over Louisville, airing Thursday, May 1 at 9/8 p.m. CT on KET2.

In this program, viewers can thrill to the sights in the explosive show featuring the latest in pyrotechnics from Zambelli Internationale. The fireworks, shot from 400-foot barges assembled on both sides of the Second Street Bridge, include Thunder’s signature one-mile “waterfall” effect off the bridge.

Thunder Over Louisville is produced by WDRB-TV/Louisville. More information about KET programming and education services, as well as how to support KET, can be found at www.ket.org.
